2014 Bridal Gown Trend and Vera Wang’s Bold Call to Action

Thanks to the ever so clever, creative & imaginative, goddess of the gown, Ms. Vera Wang, we have a trend for 2014 I am most happy to share. It is officially the year of PINK and tickled we are to highlight it here. Vera has asked us all to experience “pink as sensual, pink as seductive, pink as dreamy, pink as sophisticated, pink as strong, & pink as cool”. Her call to action is simple,”Think Pink!” and we couldn’t agree more.

As you can see we are not talking about blush or even baby pink. It’s not the sort of pink you would find on an adolescent girl skipping giddily off to a birthday party. We are talking about seductive, saturated hues that evoke emotion, scent, & whimsy in the most sophisticated of fashion.

I challenge you this! Think of someone ….anyone that doesn’t look good in some hue of pink. Go ahead. Keep thinking. Ok stop… because you can’t! It’s universally flattering for just about any skin tone and coloring.

Now I would like to say this. There are many brides around the world…especially in the NY metro area who are not 20 something. They are 30 something confidant, professional, chic trend setters that are less than virginal. Yup… I went there. And I went there for a reason. This trend spans that gap. If you are young and innocent…pink can work. If you are  more mature and confident pink can work. If you want something that is as timeless as Grace Kelly but as bold as Gwen Stephanie pink can work. Whether it’s your first marriage , or your third pink can work. If you are having a casual beach wedding or a grand gala affair pink can work. Whether it’s petal pink, rose pink, peony pink, or coral pink.

Yup, you guessed it. Pink can work. So go ahead and think pink!

Sleepy Hollow Country Club

Pagano & Zangrilli Wedding by Ali Barone Events

You can always tell when two people are truly in love.  It’s often in the way they can glance, smile and laugh with one another like no one else is in the room. Our couple, Matt and Marisa Zangrilli, did just that many times throughout their wedding day, giving us all a glimpse of  their true love and friendship at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

The day began with an exciting and fabulous hair and makeup session from Jody Iacovelli and his assistant Michael along with Lindsey and Holly from Face Time Beauty.  Marisa’s look finally came together as her veil was placed and her last layer of lipstick was reapplied before the ceremony—a stunning image. With Matt patiently waiting at the Church of Immaculate Conception down the road from the club, Marisa entered a classic Rolls Royce with her father and away they went.

As the ceremony came to an end, the ABE staff meticulously prepared for the cocktail hour and the evening festivities back at the club before the guests’ arrival. With Ali Barone’s luxurious vision, design  and artful direction the rooms were filled with lush, muted flowers and opulent touches of crystal, satin and glimmering mercury glass throughout. Marisa and Matt’s dream wedding  truly came to life. But, the party really started as the couple made their entrance for the first time as husband and wife!

The evening took off as the music, provided by Hank Lane (the Howard Taylor Band), filled the halls and dance floor of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. Thankfully, Robert Wagner, the talented photographer of the night, caught every minute!

Ali Barone Events truly enjoyed collaborating with all the amazing people involved in the

production process. It was a combination of the gorgeous location, the party atmosphere and the sheer, honest love of family and friends that was echoing throughout the rooms of the club that night that made this wedding most endearing and unforgettable. The theme was romantic and luxurious but, there was clearly something more to it—lots and lots of LOVE.

The Palm House at Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Miller & Bloomgarden Wedding by Ali Barone Events

The sun was out with not a cloud in the sky, a perfect day for a wedding. Our wonderful couple, Lauren and Zach, stood side by side all day through their photographs, to the chuppah and even as they shared their delicious treat at the end of the night—a true sign of their love and devotion.

The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens served as a beautiful background for their ceremony in “the meadows,” giving a secret garden feel. It was a magical moment when it all came together, from Pedestals floral décor to Laurens graceful walk down the aisle. It truly was a sight to see and photographer, Shari of Brett Matthews photography and her brilliant team, captured every moment.

We also loved how Lacey, the family dog, got to walk down the aisle as flower girl, too cute!As the heartfelt ceremony came to an end, the ABE team dried their eyes and prepared for the rest of the evening’s festivities.  Luckily, as the sun went down so did the temperature and everyone was finally able to cool off with a refreshing drink from cocktail hour by the serene reflecting pool and fountain.

Finally, for the first time, Lauren and Zach were introduced as man and wife and the Dylan Mathews Band of Hank Lane kicked off the night with a bang! The transition from cocktail hour to the reception blew the guests away with the gorgeous floral centerpieces, the romantic glow from all the candles and the blend of light pinks and ivories even tied into the 5 tiered cake!

The crowd was lively and by the end of the night they weren’t ready to end the celebration. Fortunately, Zach and Lauren knew their guests well and set up a surprise treat outside for everyone on their way out. They all loved the Wafels & Dinges truck! It was a delicious, personal touch that everyone enjoyed and a memorable conclusion to an extraordinary evening.

It was a pleasure collaborating with everyone involved in this production process. We all worked hard to give Lauren and Zach their dream wedding.

Another flawless day with a beautiful couple and their families.

Beat the Heat with these Cool Summer Wedding Dresses.

Don’t let the summer weather limit your dress selection.  Even if you have a wedding planned for the middle of the season where 90 degrees and humidity are strong possibilities you still have so many options to find a dress that’s unique and ready to keep you cool!

This Jenny Yoo design has chiffon and tulle fabrics that create a perfect pretty yet functional wedding day attire.

Spaghetti straps, light fabric, and pockets!? This simplistic design is gorgeous and one of the hot new trends. Perfect for beach or garden weddings, just dress it up with a pretty head piece like the model below.  Find this fun gown by Pure MagnoliaCouture at Etsy.com.

This is for all our girly-girls looking for their summer princess gown.  Charlotte Balbier designed a gown with the full princess look that’s perfect for warm months.  While the floral details add a soft feminine touch, the one shoulder look keeps fabric minimum at the top to have you looking hot without feeling hot!

When you’re focusing on light fabrics and simple dresses to keep you from burning up put some of that extra drama and detail in the back! Detailed backs are one of the hottest (or coolest ;)) trends of 2013.  This champagne colored dress by Retro Vintage Weddings is simply breathtaking!

Or you can always just go backless! Sometimes the less fabric the better right?  This Lihi Hod design incorporates so many elements from the elegant buttons in the back to the textured details all over you don’t need a back on it!

Don’t forget there is always the option of going short! 2013 brought so many amazing short styles on the runway it makes it hard to decide between long or hemmed wedding dresses. One thing is for sure though, you’re guaranteed to look and feel cool in this adorable design by Lyn Ashworth.

An Enchanted Wedding

Some of us spend our childhood dreaming of our storybook wedding. Well, this story does not have to be fiction. Let your fairy tale come to life with these magical ideas for an “Enchanted Wedding”.

Picturesque floral arrangements that incorporate branches and delicate flowers will have your guests feeling like they’re in an enchanted forest.

This DIY decor has a fun whimsical feel to it.

Countless draping lights will illuminate the night with a magical ambiance.

Serve dessert floating in jeweled colored ribbons to show off dazzling and delicious treats.

Short and Sweet

I’ve never been a big fan of short bridal dresses. For me I just figured it’s one of the few occasions you can wear a ground skimming gown and feel like… well like a star! I also don’t quite get the multiple costume changes. Once you find THE dress you should be so madly in love with it that you never want to take it off. Especially after only a couple of hours.

Well, after this years New York Bridal Fashion Week I have to say…I may be converting! I am now an absolute believer in short wedding attire and gown changes! This year many designers featured higher hem lines that were amazing to say the least. I fell in love with the flirty, funky, flare and now can understand why some brides chose the shorter look. As for the multiple wedding ensembles, lets face it, sometimes we just can’t decide. Why should we?? We can’t help it if we fall madly in love with multiple looks. Who says you can’t have your princess gown AND dancing-queen dress?? It’s your big day, have your cake and eat it too!

Here are a few of ABE favorites…

Marchesa / Monique Lhuillier / Rafael Cennamo / Reem Acra

New York Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2013

Last week was New York Bridal Fashion Week where all the top, new designers showed off their Spring/Summer 2014 collections. Here at ABE we went through thousands of dresses (our favorite kind of work!) to pick out our favorites and show you! There were so many trends to choose from: back detailing, capes, sleeves, and more. We chose to focus on a truly tasteful trend: lace. It’s so beautiful and we love how it can be either classic or modern. What do you think of our top picks?

Oscar de la Renta

This season Oscar de la Renta’s gowns were classic, pretty, and elegant. Many of them have sleeves that add a delicate feminine touch. We had a hard time choosing which ones to show.

Romona Keveza

Romona Keveza was another designer with classic styles from mermaid dresses to full princess styles and everything in between.  We love the little details of all her dresses like the peekaboo lace on the top  of the first dress or the beautiful one shoulder style of the middle one.

Reem Acra & Marchesa

Reem Acra- These gowns are all about edgy feminine styles. This dress is great for brides who love taking fashion risks!

Marchesa- Of course we had to include another favorite: Marchesa. This collection featured a lot of modest styles, which happens to be another big trend this year. This dress is one of the less covered styles with gorgeous lace sleeves that flow into a stunning cape.

Robert Bullock & Nicole Miller

Robert Bullock- The perfect collection for the girly girl.  He designs those dresses you dream of as a little girl and then adds a surprising detail like this deep slit.  He knows how to make brides look sexy and classy.

Nicole Miller- Nicole Miller’s cut out dress with lace is sexy with out being too much. Another designer that perfects making gowns stunning yet classy.

Here Comes the Flower Girl All Dressed in… TUTUs!

The latest flower girl trends are big tulle tu-tu skirts.

They are absolutely adorable, charming, and make it look like tiny bubbly fairies are attending your big day. Plus you know the little ones love it just as much as you do!

Here are just some of the cutest ideas I’ve seen around!

You can go for the traditional white:.

(YoungHeartsBotique on Etsy)

Or have it match your bridesmaid dresses

(PrincessDreamsTutus on Etsy)

(bbabyangel on Etsy)

You can go for simple

(Sweet Flower Girl Tutu on Etsy)

Or have the skirt be as full as you want. Tulle can be your friend!

Red Carpet Wedding Gowns

Are the Oscars still on your mind? Or at least the Oscar dresses??

We’re still dreaming about them over here! The red carpet is a great place to look for inspiration for your dream wedding dress.  This year there were so many gorgeous gowns that we can see being transformed from down the red carpet to down the aisle.

The leading lady of the night: Jennifer Lawrence, goes with a Princess-Couture look in her extravagant Dior gown.

Sandra Bullock’s Elie Saab dress would be gorgeous as a wedding gown in a cream or ivory.

Go for sleek and modern like Charlize Theron in Christian Dior.

Jessica Chastain’s old-Hollywood glamour look by Armani Prive is stunning and definitely wedding worthy.

One of my favorites of the night was Amanda Seyfried’s Alexander McQueen gown. The beading and high neck line are brilliant.

You don’t have to be a celebrity to dress like a star!
